Project overview
Within the Chania 2025 Social Service Programme, the European Outdoor Education Hub was responsible for designing and delivering the Outdoor Education component known as Local Green Heroes.
Our contribution focused on two areas:
Curriculum design, transforming sustainability themes into an Outdoor Education framework adapted for schools.
Training and mentoring a youth cohort, preparing seven young adults to act as facilitators and implement the curriculum in practice.
Over the course of the programme, these young facilitators delivered more than 2,400 hours of environmental workshops in 10 schools, reaching 735 pupils and 50 teachers. Activities explored climate change, waste management, marine protection, and active citizenship, combining classroom preparation with experiential outdoor learning.
By leading this strand, the EOE Hub demonstrated how Outdoor Education can serve as a bridge between curriculum, youth empowerment, and community engagement — creating a replicable model for future initiatives in Greece and Europe.
